The Client is a major producer of paper and cardboard in the Middle East, and one of the biggest players in the Pulp & Paper industry in Europe. The cardboards are all manufactured using recycled material.

Customer’s needs
The Client aims to:
– remove TSS up to <30 ppm;
– reduce the sludge after the MBBR plant;
– reduce calcium.
A further issue is also given by the few space available on site, thus the plant needs to be equipped with space-saving technologies.

The solution provided
The units supplied to the Client are two IFS 240 and two IFS 200 later in a second phase of implementation.
Idraflot compact DAF units are designed for an optimal process stability and effective performances achievable thanks to their innovative modular design and patented water mixing device which allow to exploit the whole surface of the tank. Main benefits are: a very high thickening and clarification grade with the highest removal efficiency on suspended solids, oils and grease and not soluble COD, and the lowest chemicals consumption within the category.

The Design & Build plant supplied includes:
– a first phase with a settler for accumulation;
– a UASB plant;
– then two MBBR units.

After that, four Idraflot IFS units have been installed:
– 2 IFS 240, with a total treatment capacity of 550 m3/h;
– 2 IFS 200, with a total treatment capacity of 440 m3/h.

The reduction of the sludge coming from the biologic treatment phase, the reduction of calcium, and the removal of suspended solids up to <30 ppm was the goal and it is perfectly achieved. During start-up TSS average is 500 (up to 960 ppm) with TSS outlet <30 ppm. At the end of the process, the clarified water is discharge in the surface water. Thanks to the using of technologies with a low footprint the plant space problem is solved.

  • TSS removal up to <30 ppm,
  • calcium reduction,
  •  TCOD reduction up to <250 mg/l and plant footprint reduction.
